Last month KOZY completed another exciting project, this time located in the beautiful north London borough of Finchley. Tasked with redesigning and redecorating an open plan kitchen, living room and dining space, the team were set on creating a relaxed but functional space that could be enjoyed by the homeowner with friends and family.
So how did KOZY do it? Take a look through the most important steps we took in creating a relaxed mid-century modern home.
1. Mood board and Inspiration:
The first step of any design project is the most crucial as this stage forms the basis of every design decision to come. For KOZY understanding our client's inspiration through mood boarding is key as it provides an easy to understand visual representation of design concepts, and ideas.
KOZY starts with collaborative mood boarding like Pinterest to provide a platform for clients to express their preferences and feedback early on in the design process. By incorporating our client input from this early stage, we can refine their concepts to better align with our ideas, before creating their own bespoke KOZY moodboard. This collaborative approach is perfect, also builds trust, and keeps our clients involved in the decision-making process throughout.
2. Creating a Colour Palette:
Creating a colour palette is a fundamental aspect of interior design that significantly influences the overall ambiance, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of a space.
A colour palette serves as a guiding framework for making various design decisions. It influences everything from the selection of furniture and material finishes to the choice of flooring and wall treatments. By establishing a palette early in the design process, we can streamline choices and ensure that all elements complement each other, and avoids harsh clashes that don’t work.
3. Product specifying and sourcing:
Now for the really fun stuff, shopping! Product specification and sourcing allows us as designers to translate our conceptual vision into reality. By carefully selecting furniture, fixtures, materials, and accessories that align with the design concept, our aim is to create a cohesive and visually appealing space that considers our client needs. Strategic sourcing gives KOZY the opportunity to find quality products within any specified budget, finding better prices or finding cost-effective alternatives without compromising on style or quality.
4. Project Management and Installation:
Project management bridges the gap between the creative design concept and its physical implementation, this step ensures the KOZY vision is accurately translated into the finished space. From timeline management, sourcing and contracting suppliers and local tradesmen, budget management, to bi-weekly project calls to keep things on track, project management can be one of the busiest steps in any project. But its worth every chaotic minute it takes, as completing this step gets the project closer to completion and the final installation of decor and finishing touches!
